Better-for-you Snacks
It is so easy to grab a bag of chips or some pre-made snack. However, if you take a few extra minutes, you can have a delicious, much better for you, snack available to satisfy your cravings.
Here are a few easy and fun healthier snack ideas:
Apples or bananas and peanut butter (throw in some dark chocolate)
Strawberries (and pretzels) with homemade whipped cream
Whipped cream:
Heavy whipping cream
Vanilla extract
Maple syrup (or monk fruit sweetener)
Frozen yogurt bites
Dip fruit in Greek yogurt (mixed with a little honey and vanilla) and freeze
Healthy samoas
2 bananas – mashed
2 cups of shredded coconut flakes
Dark chocolate (melted)
Mix bananas and coconut flakes
Shape as samoas on a cookie sheet (with parchment paper)
Bake until golden brown
Drizzle with chocolate
Bread with nut butter (or peanut butter)
Sprinkle with oats, dark chocolate, or coconut
Avocado pudding
1 avocado
2 tablespoons of cocoa powder
2-3 tablespoons of maple syrup
½ teaspoon of vanilla extract
2 tablespoons of water
(optional: pinch of salt)
Mash avocado
Mix all ingredients together
(can be stored in the refrigerator in an air-tight container for up to 48 hours)
Protein bites
1 cup of oats
½ cup of peanut butter
½ cup of chocolate chips
⅓ cup of honey
½ cup of ground flax seed
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
Mix all ingredients
Roll into balls
Freeze (for about an hour)
