How to prepare your garden for spring!
It’s no secret that a beautiful garden takes a lot of work and commitment. With that in mind, here are some steps you can take to make sure your garden reaches its full potential this spring!
Clear your garden of weeds and dead plants. These pesky plants can really worsen the look of your garden in addition to some weeds being harmful to certain plants. It’s important for the flowers and other plants in your garden to have a clean place to grow so they can flourish!
Clean your gardening tools. In order to create an environment for your plants to grow, your tools must be in good shape. Otherwise, they have the potential to infect your plants. Make sure to inspect your tools for bugs and clean the tools with water and soap.
Get rid of unwanted pests. Bugs or animals can destroy your garden if you don’t take steps to prevent it. Make sure to spray pesticide and keep an eye out for signs of bad bugs or animal damage. If pesticide isn’t your thing, you can make a solution of hot pepper, garlic, and cinnamon in water. If you want to take extra steps, some plants, such as marigolds and petunias, naturally repel bugs!
Add compost to your soil. Compost adds the nutrients back to soil that were lost the previous planting soil. It also might attract beneficial insects for your garden. Consider even setting up your own compost system. While helping cut costs of spending money on compost, the compost will be fresher and possibly even more beneficial to your garden.
Prune your trees and bushes. Pruning helps your bushes and trees helps to form growth. It is important to note, however, that you should not prune if your trees and bushes are already showing signs of new growth.
