Sunday, February 11, 2024 marked the 58th Super Bowl, played in Las Vegas, and featuring the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs. The lasts seconds of the game saw the score of 19-16 with the 49ers in the lead.
The Chief’s kicker, Harrison Butker, scored a field goal in the final seconds, leading to an overtime. It was only the second time in Super Bowl history that the game has gone into overtime.
Ultimately, a throw from Chief’s quarterback Patrick Mahomes to Mecole Hardman resulted in a last second touchdown and ended the overtime game with a Chief’s win 22 -25. The 2024 Super Bowl win is the 2nd in a row for the Kansas City Chiefs.
There were also a few record-breaking moments in the 58th Super Bowl.
In the first half, 49ers Jake Moody kicked a 55 yard field goal, breaking the previous Super Bowl record of 54 yards.
The new record was then broken in the second half by Chiefs kicker, Harrison Butker, who kicked a field goal of 57 yards.
Patrick Mahomes also made history on February 11. The 58th Super Bowl is his fourth Super Bowl. In all four Super Bowl games Mahomes has a record-breaking total of 139 rushing yards. He was named MVP for the third time in a Super Bowl. He now joins Tom Brady and Joe Montana, who have both won MVP at least 3 three times.
