An election which has built up much division and anticipation finally came to close last month. President-elect Donald Trump won the victory over Vice President Kamala Harris. While the polls seemed rather close at the beginning of election day, Trump was starting to take a large lead. This 2024 election is a sweep of red across the nation. According to NBC News, Trump won 312 electoral votes, while Harris won 226. (you need 270 electoral votes to win). Electoral votes come from the states, each having a different amount depending on the population. Trump also won the popular vote. This was the first time a Republican presidential candidate won the popular vote since 2004. According to NBC News, he has 75,958,193 votes while Harris has 72,953,282 votes (winning the popular vote does not count towards winning the election). The popular vote is the number of votes by each citizen. On top of this, Trump has also won in all the battleground states, even coming close in the democratic states. This makes President-Elect Trump the only person to win a second term non-sequentially since Grover Cleveland. Now that this election is complete, all we can do is wait to see what his time in office brings.
