News Brief: Richard III – Burial At Last
March 29, 2015
King Richard III, who was killed at the Battle of Bosworth, in England, on August 22, 1485, got a proper burial last Thursday. In 2012, the king’s remains were found buried underneath a parking lot, in a grave unmarked and lacking a coffin. This discovery was made by the University of Leicester, along with the Richard III Society and the Leicester City Council. Then the groups worked to give the dead king a proper burial at the Leicester Cathedral in Leicester, England. Thousands of people lined the streets of Leicester March 26 to watch the king go, as Bishop of Leicester Ted Stevens noted, from carpark to cathedral. Members of the royal family attended the funeral, as did actor Benedict Cumberbatch -a distant cousin of Richard III.
