For the first time in American history, the vice president has broken a tie vote for the confirmation of a cabinet appointee.  Vice President Mike Pence voted in favor of the confirmation of Betsy DeVos as the Secretary of Education.  The final tally in this historic vote was 51-50.  Mrs. DeVos is a supporter of homeschooling.
