The Polar Vortex: What You Need to Know

Across the northern U. S. a polar vortex gave a new meaning to: It’s cold outside. Temperatures became colder in Chicago than in Antarctica.
The polar vortex descended on the northern U. S. and brought extreme winds and record-breaking cold.
About 250 million Americans experienced the polar vortex and 90 million experienced temperatures below 1.4 F.
The polar vortex caused the cancellation of mail deliveries in parts of ten states in the Great Plains and Midwest.
According to resident MODG families, inhabitants of harder-hit states were warned not to breathe the outside air to avoid lung damage.
Despite the polar vortex being a cause of much trouble and tragedy, it has transformed much of the northern U.S. into a winter wonderland.
